Description Departing from Naxos Town, we take the main road of the island that crosses the mountainous region of Naxos. The first village we come across is Galanado with its Venetian Belonias Tower. Then, we cross the area of Tragaia with its olive groves, small villages, and settlements. We stop at the village of Chalki, where we can admire Venetians towers, stately homes, and Byzantine churches. We stroll into the village and visit the traditional citrus distillery. Our next stop is at the village of Moni, where we can visit Panagia Drosiani, one of the oldest Byzantine churches in the Balkans. The next village we come across is Filoti, built at the foot of Mt Zas, the highest mountain in the Cyclades. Then, we go up a mountainous road, and we have a stop at Apeiranthos, also known as the "marble village", which boasts three museums (archaeological, folk, and natural history museums). After Apeiranthos, we arrive at Koronos with its emery mines, and then, at an altitude of 700m., we arrive at the village of Komiaki. Our final stop is at Apollonas, a seaside settlement, where you can see a 10.5-metre-high Kouros statue, dating back to the 7th century B.C.. We make a long stop here, where we can take a swim and have lunch at the nearby restaurants. Finally, we return to Naxos Town along the coastal north-west road.
