Description We start at 8:45am by taxi from the travel agency Naxos Tours, or we can pick you up from your hotel. After half an hour we arrive at the mountainous village Kynidaros (550m high), in the middle of the island. After a small sightseeing tour in the village, we visit an old olive press. Then, we go down an old path that leads to the longest river of the island, which provides drinkable water throughout the year. The valley that lies before us is an oasis of silence in nature. Half the path goes under shady trees, by the cool brook, so even in summer it’s not too hot for this tour. We also visit the big church of Agios Artemios, the old monastery of Agios Dimitrios, nine old watermills and a waterfall. The tour is about 11km downwards and lasts about 6 hours. During the tour we may come across a lot of animals, such as turtles, crabs and butterflies. Also, we can collect various species of herbs and taste fruit in season. Then, we arrive at Engares, the most fertile village of the island, where we have one and a half hours to enjoy a delicious meal with warm dishes, a wide variety of starters, local wine and Greek coffee. At 5pm we go back to town by taxi. Your walking guide Thomas has been living on the island since 1981 and owns an organic farm. He can answer your questions concerning the island and its people.
